Daily Dose of Wellness: Peace Within

Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

If you’re struggling to find peace within yourself, remember that God deeply desires for you to experience true harmony. He wants you to have harmony not only with Him and others, but also within your own heart. Peace with yourself means embracing a gentle, loving relationship with your own being. This inner peace is part of God’s perfect will for you. When we’re missing this peace, it often points to inner wounds or feelings of rejection, loneliness, or unworthiness. These feelings can make it hard to accept the love, kindness, and blessings around us. Living in constant internal conflict can feel exhausting. It can even be frightening. It might feel as if we’re cut off from the life we long for. You are not alone.

Start by inviting God to tenderly search your heart. Ask Him to bring light to any hidden hurt or unresolved struggle. Trust Him to guide you with love. He will surround you with people who will support you. They will encourage and lift you up on your journey to healing. As you lean into this process of self-reflection and growth, know that God’s love is beyond understanding. It brings you closer to living the life He desires for you.

Supporting the gut microbiome through a balanced diet, prebiotics (fiber-rich foods), probiotics (fermented foods), stress management, and exercise can lead to improved mental health. It can also reduce anxiety. Additionally, it contributes to greater emotional well-being.

Reset your Microbiome

Fasting is the ultimate way to repair your microbiome. When you fast, you give the good bacteria in your gut a chance to grow and thrive. Breaking your fast with probiotic foods helps add more good bacteria to your gut. Feeding your gut prebiotic foods will also nourish your good microbes. This makes them an excellent choice for a break-fast meal if you want more microbes to boost your immune system. This also provides your body with more mood-enhancing neurotransmitters and helps break down estrogen. Great foods to break your fast include bone broth. Other options are fermented yogurts, sauerkraut, kombucha, and prebiotic-rich protein powders. These all support your microbiome.

“To heal is to touch with love that which was previously touched by fear” — Stephen Levine

Self-reflection is important to understand our own behaviors. Why am I doing this? What is underneath that is driving this response? Begin to look at shame, fear, fear of abandonment, fear of intimacy, fear of rejection, and fears of failure. All of these can lead to core issues stemming from trauma and stress. Instead of condemning yourself for negative thoughts or behaviors, start to compassionately inquire and be curious. Talk to yourself like you would to a dear friend. Say: “I am not going to judge you. I just want to understand.” Then, slow down to process through it. It can be helpful to write down the statements you are saying to yourself. It is also beneficial to have a photo of your younger self and speak to that photo.

What would you say to that little precious soul in the photograph?

Write an encouraging letter to your younger self.
